Kleinrock, Edit Update

Today, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Leonard Kleinrock. Not only is he the brilliant man who invented packet-switching (Internet Routing), co-invented the Internet, and studied under Claude Shannon, the father of Information Theory, he is also a kind man who finds delight in teaching yokels like me.

I’m revising my rough-cut and implementing the footage I shot today over the next few weeks. Still on track for the November deadline, though I hate watching full roughs of feature content. Gearing up for some serious macro-editing.

Anyway, if you get the chance to read about Shannon, Kleinrock or the first message ever sent over the Internet I suggest you do. This stuff should be taught in every middle school.

The Road to November

As some of you may know SXSW is in March and their final entry date for feature film content is November 15th. I am going to do everything in my power to reach that date as I’m under the impression that my the documentary is perfect for SXSW; covering all of their bases — Tech, Music, Film all the while being truly “independent”.

NOTE ON WHAT “INDEPENDENT” MEANS: I have very few connections to the film industry outside of the ones I’ve forged through tireless work in LA for 4 years. I have no previous track record in producing/directing independent feature films to leverage. The ideas I’m expressing in this doc are challenging, esoteric, informed, a-political and uncompromising. I have NO blood relatives in the film industry (at least that I know of) and, of course, the doc has a very small budget funded by independent VC.

This is not a documentary about polical strife, but it sure a hell defines the world under which politcal battles will be fought. This is not a film about overcomming adversity, but it will ring more and more true to anyone who has felt impowered by the anonimity/meritocracy the web has afforded us. This is not a film about the transhuman experience, but it provides context to the digtal world we transhuman’s will be exploring.

I have a ton of work to do between now and then — editing, graphics, writing, promoting, color correction, audio mixing, score, acciuring rights, and yes even some shooting, but I’m on course and determined. Though the pace may seem slow at times that’s only because were in a fight similar to a Crysknife-fight in “Dune”, deliberate and calculated.

So here’s to it. Make it or break it. Let’s hope for the former.

IDDQD: no theory, no history, no flood

This is a place where I hope to divulge information about IDDQD productions, my experiences and blah blah blah… you know what a blog is for. Over the next few months I’ll be speaking with people and going to places a lot more interesting than myself so I thought these experiences might be of value to some of you that care.

Concerning the documentary:

It seems to me these ideas of Transhumanism, Information Systems, Ai, Digital Divide, Quantum Computing, and Digital Realities etc etc… are larger than any one of us, yes, even you Ray Kurzweil, so I was compelled to do a documentary about these subjects as part of an attempt to introduce and investigate advanced information technologies and their impact on the everyday person to who???? The everyday person, why of course.

So much of this information is esoteric and reserved to the elite (See: Google Talks, TED Conference fees) because as most successful people, ne, most people know that information is power. What most everyday people don’t relize is that we are currently engaging in a great; though, potentially dividing technological revolution.

It’s nothing new. You felt it the first time felt the need to buy a personal computer, or a modem, or an Iphone/Blackberry/Droid. The moral issue that presents itself to us is how much of our finances/lives/humanity/the human experience are we willing to sacrifice to keep up with the Joneses once they can survive for 350 years, are linked into the noosphere, have digital representations of their soul saved in the cloud and are willing to justify any action to be one of the lucky few pioneers to transverse the future planes of digital existence.

But that’s all hooey. Let’s all try to focus on the facts for now. I know I am… trying.
